Site camera FAQs
FAQs regarding construction site cameras & construction site time-lapse
Frequently asked questions about construction site cameras:
What distinguishes a professional construction camera from a normal webcam or IP camera?
Traditional webcams and IP cameras are primarily designed for live viewing, video transmission and surveillance tasks. Their technical focus is therefore typically on continuous video streaming, compressed video transmission and features such as motion detection or live access.
Fast Motion takes a fundamentally different approach. Our systems produce high-resolution photographic single frames with up to 100 megapixels and a medium-format sensor in JPEG and RAW format. The enormous resolution and extensive image data create headroom for professional colour grading, crop zooms, digital camera pans, and time-lapse productions up to 12K.
At the same time, our systems are specifically designed for construction site deployments lasting several months or years. Capture, data transmission, monitoring and archiving form an integrated overall system that is continuously maintained and supervised throughout the entire project.
For which projects are time-lapse construction cameras suitable?
Our construction site cameras are suitable for a wide variety of construction, infrastructure and industrial projects where progress and changes need to be professionally documented over a longer period of time. Typical areas of application include building construction and civil engineering, infrastructure projects, renovations and revitalisations, plant and industrial construction, logistics projects, energy projects and large-scale real estate developments.
Depending on project size, duration and desired image quality, different camera systems are available – from professional long-term documentation with 25 megapixels to high-end production with 100 megapixels and 12K resolution. Even complex projects can be documented using multiple camera positions or our 3D time-lapse technology.
Where can a site camera be mounted?
Depending on the project, the camera can be mounted, for example, on buildings, roofs, masts, scaffolding, containers, or specially designed structures. Custom solutions can also be implemented for locations without suitable existing mounting options. The decisive factor is always ensuring an unobstructed view of the project for as long as possible.
Who is going to install the camera?
Assembly and commissioning are carried out by the Fast Motion team. This enables us to ensure that the camera position, image framing, mounting, power supply and data transmission are optimally coordinated for the respective project. Following the end of the project, we also handle the professional dismantling.
Are the recordings GDPR-compliant?
Yes, construction site time-lapse recordings can be implemented in compliance with the GDPR. Unlike traditional video surveillance, our systems focus not on monitoring people or events, but on the long-term documentation of construction progress through individual recordings taken at defined intervals.
The specific data protection requirements depend on the respective project – in particular on the recording area, the purpose of the documentation and the access permissions.
Fast Motion already takes these requirements into account when planning and setting up the camera systems. Recording areas can be precisely defined and sensitive areas masked if necessary, and people or other relevant areas of the image can be anonymised.
Can the camera be moved or realigned during the project?
Yes. Particularly in long-term construction projects, sightlines and project areas frequently change. If necessary, camera positions, orientation or settings can be adjusted. Such changes are coordinated as the project progresses.
What happens after the completion of the construction project?
Following the end of the project, the camera system will be dismantled. The recorded data can then be used for archiving, documentation or the creation of a final time-lapse film. Upon request, we can handle the complete post-production, including editing, colour grading, music, graphics and other media content. Due to its high image quality and processing, our footage is also optimally suited for TV or cinema.
